Our Mission

To champion and celebrate children’s literature by writers based in Scotland.

KILTS was set up by a group of children’s authors based in Scotland

ABOUT THE FOUNDERS:

David Macphail has written dozens of children’s books, including the Thorfinn the Nicest Viking series and An Amazing History Atlas of Scotland. He lives with his family in Perthshire.

Lindsay Littleson is an award-winning middle-grade author from Glasgow. Her books include Carnegie-nominated Guardians of the Wild Unicorns, The Titanic Detective Agency and Kelpies Prize-winning The Mixed-Up Summer of Lily McLean, which was also longlisted for the Waterstones Children's Books Prize. Her latest novel, Ice Cream Boy, comes out in May 2024.

Alan Dapré is an experienced author of 61 books for children and 100 TV scripts. His plays have been broadcast on BBC Radio & published for use in schools. Alan writes stories for young readers, and regularly appears at book festivals, libraries & schools. He delivers lively wordplay packed interactive events based on his fun-filled books.

Victoria Williamson is an award-winning children’s author from Kirkintilloch, Scotland. Victoria has lived and worked in Africa, China and America and her novels, The Fox Girl and the White Gazelle and The Boy with the Butterfly Mind are based on her experiences of teaching children with diverse backgrounds. Two of her most recent novels, Norah's Ark and War of the Wind, have been nominated for the 2024 Yoto Carnegie Medal.

Barbara Henderson has twice won the Historical Association's Young Quills Award for her historical adventures for children and is a founding member of the Time Tunnellers. She lives in Inverness where she works as a Drama teacher, but she is happiest when visiting schools and spreading the story-love.

Classes across the country (numbering over 13’000 children!) joined together by simultaneously reading kids’ books written/published in Scotland.
